The Great Evocation
by Brad Berg
There are many instances in the books of Alice Bailey where the Master
DK discusses the Great Invocation and urges us to use it often. In
The Externalization of The Hierarchy, He goes to great length to describe
the purpose of the Invocation and the meaning of the stanzas. We are
strongly encouraged to use it, not only daily, but especially at
times of a critical spiritual nature, such as the full moon during the
three spring festivals.
In the book The Reappearance of The Christ, DK provides us with the future
definition of religion, which is “the name given to the invocative
appeal of humanity and the evocative response of the greater Life to that
cry.”
The distribution of the Great Invocation has been referred to as being
a major task of those who have taken this stream of the Teachings to heart.
Over the years, tens of thousands (and hopefully more!) have embraced the
Invocation and use it regularly. We can readily imagine the extent
to which our efforts to invoke the Three Aspects and the beneficent attention
of the Hierarchy is resulting in a slow, but steady, stimulating and sweetening
of the spiritual life of humanity and the lower kingdoms in nature.
This article is to suggest that use of the Great Invocation can be even
more powerful and effective if we focus our intention to include the evocative
response of Those we hope to reach via the invocative process. Perhaps
many of those using the Great Invocation primarily focus on the first half
of the process, that of invoking. If we maintain that fixed intention
and also take the time to actually and consciously work with the energy
evoked (even if “as if”) we can establish and maintain a conduit
through which that energy can flow. In a sense, its about maintaining
the alignment.
The keeping open and alive of the conduit is really the focus here. It
is suggested that after reciting the Great Invocation we maintain the alignment
with Hierarchy so that the energy can continue to flow through the established
conduit. After all, the purpose of the Invocation is the Evocation
of the energies. Remaining focused on working with the Evoked energies
can enhance the effectiveness of the process.
We are taught and can hopefully see in our lives that the spiritual stimulation
which results from individual and group meditation, as well as other
forms of soul contact and alignment, must manifest through our service
and creative efforts, or result in an undue stimulation of the lower
nature. It is hoped that those seriously working with the use of
the Great Invocation are finding or creating opportunities to serve
and use the evoked energies.
We can also sense that our invocative efforts, and those of millions working
along other, yet related lines, is generally effective by allowing
Hierarchy to release the various energies and their qualities, of
which they are the guardians and custodians. However, we do have the
opportunity and ability to strengthen the work by remaining aligned
with the Hierarchical source of these energies immediately after
the intoning of the "great
Evocation." This is especially true when done so in group format,
as the Masters are able to direct the flow of the energies in countless
blended configurations, based on the intricate occult nature and
development of the group members and of the group itself. Please
keep in mind that meditating, or invoking, with only one other person
can suffice to be a group because, as we have been told, where two
or more are gathered together in the name of the head of the Hierarchy
the energy will flow. Again,
this is the point here – to stay aligned and let the energy flow – to
maximize what can be evoked by staying linked.
A simple suggestion to do so is merely to keep the meditation going after
the sounding of the Invocation, rather than OM’ing three times and
calling it done. We can do this as individuals, as a triangle, or especially,
in our group meditations.
All human beings, every moment of our lives, are transmitting energy – mental,
emotional, vital and, hopefully, spiritual. However, when we hold
the mind steady in the light, we are living prisms through which
those of the Kingdom above us can radiate the evoked energies. This
essentially allows us to work in cooperation with Hierarchy and to
assist in the fundamental purpose of humanity, which is the spiritualization
of the matter aspect of the planet. By aligning with Hierarchy and
letting the energy flow as long as possible, the Rays, astrological
qualities, systemic and cosmic influences, and the energies of the
buddhic and monadic levels, can flow through us and raise the vibration
of all kingdoms in nature.
We might ponder on the stupendous possible evocation the Master DK has
told us is imminent. We have been told that the World Teacher will
come in three ways: through the overshadowing of the working disciples,
by His physical plane appearance, and through a great outpouring
of Love. Therefore, we can see that a major purpose behind using
the Great Invocation is to assist in the preparation for the coming event. The
more we can establish and sustain conduits of Evocation, the greater
can be the outflow at the time of the Coming. Consider the wondrous
ramifications of DK”s
statement that Pentecost will be one of the major holidays of the
new world religion. It seems unlikely that He is referring to what
happened 2,000 years ago. It is possible that at the time of the Reappearance,
humanity will experience a stupendous outpouring of the principle
of Love and will consciously – in our Hearts - realize that we share
in our essential Divinity and are one. It is this, even more than
the mere physical presence of the Coming One, which will inspire
us to transform the world. And it is this global spiritual experience,
this Great Evocation, that is the likely cause for DK to portray
Pentecost as a holy day, as another world wide Pentecost can be expected
in the near future.
So, when using the Great Invocation, consider that it can possibly be
even more effective if we consciously remain linked with that which is
Evoked, not only during the process, but throughout our day.
