Dream Fragments
by Martin Vieweg

Self-conscious participation in the universe . . .

I woke from a dream this morning and wrote down six words captured from the hynogogic state between sleeping and waking:  Self-conscious participation in the universe.  Having been invited to submit an article to The Journal of Esoteric Psychology, I had been looking for an appropriate topic and I thought “Perhaps here’s an idea.  The inner guides have given me a topic for my article.  Self-consciousness . . . participation . . . in the universe!  How can I do better than this?”

The good news is that I am not going to write a lot about these thoughts, because I don’t know a lot.  I will write a little.  I will share something . . . a little later.  First let me tell you some of the other ideas (perhaps more interesting) that I would have written about if I hadn’t had this dream.

The first of these is forgiveness. I have been thinking that what the esoteric community needs right now is forgiveness.  People are arguing about so many things; they are so at odds with one another . . .   Personalities with fixed ideas are marking off their territory–defending themselves in long discourses–and short ones.  Surely forgiveness is just the antidote for this situation.  After all, Djwhal Khul did call for a “Day of Forgiveness and of Forgetting”–back in 1942.  World War II was raging.  The world was in flames.  We are clearly in a parallel cycle now–with the Iraqi situation and the “war on terror.”

I remember Mary Bailey telling us (back in the 1980s when I was a staff member at Lucis Trust) that she didn’t expect that there would be a full-scale World War III.  Her guidance told her that we would simply have an extended period of a “war on terror” and that eventually a new era of peace would dawn.  Was Mary Bailey prescient?  I don’t know.  I do believe that a positive outcome depends on us.  We need to participate in the universe, you might say.

Perhaps if we all got together and held a Day of Forgiveness in 2007 or 2008 (sometime before 2012) we could avert future disaster.  Don’t you think that’s a good idea?  I do.  If we chose to participate in such a day of collective prayer, we might do well to follow DK’s advice from over six decades ago.

This is a forgiveness which is based upon a recognition of the universality of human error in the past, and the fact that there is no blame to be apportioned to this or that group, nation or church, but that we have all made mistakes, have all failed to understand, and have all been guilty of lack of love and of tolerance.  It is not, therefore, a forgiveness which is based on a spirit of magnanimity or a sense of expediency or superiority, but upon a desire to forget the past, and to push forward into the New Age and participate in the new social order, free from the ancient hatreds, relinquishing the memory of the old mistakes in policy, judgment and method, and ignoring the habitual barriers and our normal separative instincts.

ounds like good advice to me.  We should probably apply it both to our individual situations and to the “world cleavages” that have brought us to war.  At the very least, we would do well to “ponder on this” as the Master would surely advise.  Why don’t we ponder on this and (for those who are interested in actually doing something) I recommend a Formula for Forgiveness that I have devised.  It works wonders.

It involves 4 simple ideas:

  1. Disengage from the shadow form.
  2. Observe the person (or situation that you find yourself in) silently.
  3. Extend forgiveness to the person or situation.
(This is the same forgiveness that the Holy Presence extends to you as a child of God.)
  4. Yield to the divine Presence.

A more detailed version of this forgiveness technique might be helpful for those who are interested.

  1. Come to a place of stillness (in the head or in the “heart in the head” – if possible).
  2. Picture yourself as a prisoner in Plato’s cave, in chains, watching shadow forms on the wall across from you.
  3. Recognize that the shadow forms before you are pure illusions, transitory images, unreal and fleeting–like messages in a dream.  They represent perhaps the people or circumstances that you like least in this world, but they have no meaning or power of themselves.  They are like the dead moon.  They are like wind-up toys running quickly out of energy.  They are but mirrors of the past, your own dead past, fading images in a shadowy reverie.
  4. Withdraw your attention inward to the point of stillness.  Stop energizing the illusion.  Stop projecting.  Stop giving energy to that which has no energy of its own.  It is not real and should be left behind.  Quit making real that which is not real.
  5. Pause and send forgiveness.  Extend forgiveness to the shadowy forms–the same exact forgiveness that the divine Presence extends to you.
  6. Feel it; know it; make it real.  Forgive “them” in their ignorance.  They know not what they do.  In forgiving you will be forgiven, for we are all one.
  7. Finally, in an act of love and trust, yield to the Holy Spirit.  Trust the Divine Presence within you.  Trust the One Life to make the healing power of forgiveness in the world effective in your life.

Certain people (who read widely) may recognize where this Formula for Forgiveness comes from (at least in part).  It is not from DK.  It is from the Master J.  Actually, it is derived from an extraordinary book called:  The Disappearance of the Universe – Straight Talk about Illusions, Past Lives, Religion, Sex, Politics, and the Miracles of Forgiveness.

This book is not for everyone, but I would recommend it to anyone (with sixth ray sensitivities) who values A Course in Miracles.  It would also be of interest to anyone who would be “discriminatingly drawn” to the words from the back cover of the book:

What would you do if you were sitting quietly in your living room when a mysterious couple appeared out of nowhere–and told you they were “ascended masters” who had come to reveal some shocking secrets of existence . . . ?”

I must say that, though I was a bit hesitant about the “ascended masters” quote, I learned a lot from this book–about forgiveness.  Try the formula.  Read the book.  It’s mind-expanding.  And heart-opening.  It’s also very funny.  Can ascended masters be funny?  I will leave that for you to decide.

In the meantime, let me get back to the list of “what I would have written about” if I had not had this dream.  Forgiveness was only idea number one.

Idea number two was to tell people in the esoteric community about the re-incarnation of Edgar Cayce.  He’s come back according to the web on schedule as predicted in his readings.  His name is now David Wilcock and his website is http://www.divinecosmos.com/.

I wouldn’t normally spread this rumor about the reincarnation of such an important figure, but I used to work at the Edgar Cayce Foundation and I think this claim to rebirth may actually be true.  I’m still pondering it.  Visit the website.  Check it out.  Let me know what you think.

That brings me (with a little bit more explanation) to topic number three.  Did you know that we each look just like the person we used to be in our previous life?  I didn’t.  But then I found another website:  http://reincarnation2002.com/.  This one is really worth visiting.  There are lots of photos.  There are famous people.  It is startlingly possible.  At least I am beginning to think so.  But this topic number three is really not for the esoteric community, I imagine.  It is so superficial after all.  We are such serious students of truth.  But it is interesting.  Just so you’ll know, I was drawn to this website when I discovered that Edgar Cayce (now incarnate as David Wilcock) looks just like he did at age 17 back when he was Edgar Cayce, living in Kentucky.  Looking in the mirror I am a little taken aback to think that this idea of reappearing in an image, which is the spitting image of the past, may actually be true, but it is worth pondering.  Did I look like this? Oh my!

But I’m straying from the subject.  Let’s look at topic number four.  But actually, I should probably get back to the original subject–the dream fragment:  Self-conscious participation in the universe.  Why did my inner companions tell me this?  What do these words mean?  Let me ponder on this.

Self-consciousness.  Now that means Leo–the opposite of Aquarius.  Leo is self-consciousness. Aquarius is the fulfillment of self-consciousness, or group consciousness.  We all know that.  We move from Cancer (instinct) through Leo (intellect) to Scorpio (testing aspiration to something higher).  Libra governs movement through the stages of unfoldment.  Capricorn governs initiation into group awareness.  The Lords of Makara consummate the changes in consciousness.  Instinct becomes intellect; becomes intuition  . . . illumination.  We are tested along the way.  We all know this.  Perhaps we haven’t actually realized it.  Perhaps that’s the idea.  We haven’t actually realized group consciousness.  Perhaps that’s why I am getting this advice.   Self-conscious participation in the universe. Could this be pointing to group consciousness?  Let me see.

Participation.  That must be it.  Actually, DK does use the word participation in his discussion about forgiveness.  He talks about “a great group participation in a Day of Forgiveness and of Forgetting [author’s italics]."  Surely, that is why I was given these words in my dream.  We are supposed to participate in the process.  It is as I had been thinking after all.  The long-awaited era of peace mentioned by Mary Bailey will not actually happen unless we actually participate in the process.  We need to participate; we need to forgive one another.  The formula.  We need to use the formula.

But then there’s that other part of the phrase “in the universe.”  This is important.  It adds another dimension.  Actually it fits well with another book I wanted to tell you about.  I was reading it last night before I went to sleep.  It’s topic number four.  The book is Sirius by M. Temple Richmond.  I would recommend it for anyone who is preparing for the third initiation.  Those of you who have already been transfigured and stand in light before us may or may not find it interesting as well.

Ms. Richmond was talking about “the star lives” that exist beyond the sun–just as I was going to sleep.  These are the creative hierarchies – the group presences–the creative forces that Edgar Cayce talks about.  Remember him.  He has reincarnated as David Wilcock.  He looks just like he used to look in his last life.  Actually, he used to talk about forgiveness a lot in his readings as Edgar.  He founded the “Search for God” groups.  I was in one of those groups.  I learned a lot.  I remember.  He helped me understand.  He made a real contribution.  I learned forgiveness.  I remember.  I learned a lot from Edgar Cayce.

But then I am getting off the subject.  Participation in the universe is what I want to talk about.  I want to say a few more words about this dream fragment of mine.  If we take the third initiation, as Ms. Richmond was telling me (telling us), we come in contact with the creative hierarchies that surround us; we come in contact with the star lives that exist somewhere beyond Uranus–somewhere in space.

Actually, the idea “somewhere beyond Uranus” is mine.  It’s another topic for a later article perhaps.  DK says that the Sun veils Uranus.  And then he says that Uranus is a conduit for the creative lives of the universe.  Let me share the exact quote with you.

Uranus is the planet through which zodiacal energy flows, in connection with the Creative Hierarchies upon our planet, from one of the stars of the Great Bear.

I can’t explain this one very well.  Perhaps you should read Ms. Richmond’s book.  At any rate, I think this quotation points to the fact that third degree initiates begin to live in awareness of forces beyond this solar system.  Purified, fused, steady in the light, they attune to the divine presences–the one Presence.

Keen students will recognize another formula here derived from DK’s thoughts on Practicing the Presence.  See Glamour:  A World Problem.  It’s well worth reading.  And applying . . .

But then, let me give you one more quote that I just found.  It seems to tie it all together – to bring these dream fragments from the sleeping (and the waking) dream of life into focus.  It talks about Uranus, groups, relationships, Leo, Aquarius . . .  Amazing.  Here it is – all in one.

Leo.—Ruler: The Sun, veiling Uranus, the planet of occultism, and that which governs group relations, organisations and the eleventh House. It relates the Leo influence to Aquarius.

Doesn’t that seem to put it all together?  We need to act as though we were part of the universe.  We need to enter into Aquarius–into the universal.  That’s the story.

But then that reminds me of topic number five:  my seed thought for those preparing for the third initiation into universal awareness (seeking a living relationship to the Presence–beyond a mere thought-form-connection).  Let me quote it for you.  But first, let me leave you with one simple thought.  The keynote for the third initiation is “service.”  The seed thought worth quoting is:

Others may do as they choose.

As for me and my house I will serve the living God! [author’s italics].

Perhaps we should ponder on this.  It brings all the fragments together.
