*MEDITATION AT THE FULL MOON*

In many ways, the most powerful spiritual practice we can undertake is group meditation at the time of the full moon.

Throughout time many religious festivals and ceremonies have been held in conjunction with the full moon cycle. Humanity has intuitively sensed the beneficence of this time and the beauty of the moon’s reflected light continues to be a source of fascination and wonder. And while it is true that spiritual inspiration is indeed available to us at any time, during the full moon period it is more actively present because of the spiritual condition of alignment that is set up at that time.

The power of the full moon time lies in the fact that there is a direct inflow of energy from the sun into human consciousness, providing a vivid outer symbol of an inner spiritual reality.

At the time of the full moon each month it is as if a door stands open between the inner and outer worlds—a door through which inspiration from the spiritual Hierarchy can flow.

The Hierarchy is the center of divine love upon our planet, composed of all those enlightened teachers who work behind the scenes to guide and protect humanity.  Contact between the inner and outer group of workers becomes possible through a channel that is created in meditation (sometimes called the rainbow bridge), through which light and love can flow outward into humanity and all states of consciousness.

By establishing this practice within our lives, we are working with a technique that can strengthen and solidify our relationship with our co-workers throughout the world. This monthly meditative work can expand our heart, deepen our love, and break down the barriers that separate us one from the other.

There is a “thinning of the veils” that takes place at this time and as we develop the tools of inner listening, we can become more sensitive to impressions from the soul, our group and the ashram.  During the full moon period we can become more receptive to intuitive, telepathic and spiritual experiences and we should watch for them and, if possible, take note of them.

Individuals and groups have been meditating actively at the time of the full moon since the 1930´s and today the network is global in scope.

Each monthly full moon meditation is powerfully influenced by the particular constellation ruling at that time. Each sign has a key quality that can be built into human consciousness by meditating upon it.

The full moon period is a time for intense focus, meditative quiet, and subjective work—a time when we can attempt to make contact with our inner teacher, our soul, and our spiritual group.  No matter where we are, or what we are doing, we can observe a moment of silence at the exact time of the full moon—always remembering to link up with the worldwide group of individuals who are cooperating with us.

Spiritual impression has been interrupted on our planet, creating interference within the divine circulatory flow of energy.  It is the task of all seekers, everywhere, to restore this flow and stop this interference and one of the primary means by which we can do this, is by a steady, concerted effort to establish this spiritual practice within our lives.

The full moon approach is, in reality, a five-day period—the two days preceding the full moon, the day of the full moon itself, and the two succeeding days.  The two preceding days are known as days of preparation, when we work to establish an inner alignment with the soul and our group; these are days of “renunciation and detachment,” when we prepare spiritually for the actual day of the full moon.

The day of the full moon is known as the day of safeguarding. On this day we simply attempt, as far as possible, to stand in spiritual being--acting as a silent channel for the inflowing energies from the Hierarchy and a vehicle for their distribution in the service of the planet.

The two succeeding days are known as the days of distribution, when the energies contacted are “shed abroad in our hearts, through our group and throughout the world.”

Full moon work is most effective in group formation. There is an energy released when people are gathered together that can be quite powerful—its radiation to a needy world can tangibly serve to improve conditions. Group meditation at the time of the full moon is a monthly opportunity for spiritual expansion. It involves linking up in consciousness with the powerful subjective currents that are always active at this time and directing them through the planetary energy body.

When undertaking the meditation it is helpful to do the work as closely as possible to the actual time of the full moon, preferably sometime within the preceding 18 hours. This is when the energies are building and contact with the inner group is more readily possible.  Prior to beginning meditation, it is suggested that we link up in consciousness with our group brothers throughout the world, including those who have passed over as well as the Great Ones who stand steadfastly behind all that we do.

It is also important to include co-workers who may have fallen away from the path as they are still connected with the work upon the inner planes and we should not forget them.  We are all brothers and, like all brothers, we sometimes have periods of friction between us and a consequent need for healing. The full moon opportunity can provide us with the means to bring this about, enabling us to all go forward within the bonds of light and love--“leaving the past behind.”

"He who faces the light and stands within its radiance is blinded to the issues of the world of men; he passes on the Lighted Way to the great Centre of Absorption. But he who feels the urge to pass that way, yet loves his brother on the darkened path, revolves upon the pedestal of light and turns the other way.

"He faces towards the dark, and then the seven points of light within himself transmit the outward streaming light, and lo! the face of those upon the darkened way receives that light. For them the way is not so dark. Behind the warriors--twixt the light and dark--blazes the light of Hierarchy."
