White Magic in the Bible

The Bible has depth of meaning and provides practical instruction for the spiritual journey because it is the written testimony of men and women who have been inspired by the spiritual realm to provide such instruction. Indeed, 2 Timothy 3:16 states: "All scripture is given by inspiration of God." One of the stages on the spiritual journey that we must eventually master is the stage of white magic. The white magician attempts to manifest an inner reality that exists on the level of the higher self, or soul, so that this reality appears in our physical world. Although we may think that white magic is a new,esoteric, or novel kind of activity, this presentation will show that instruction on at least five types of white magic can be found in the Bible.

Zachary Lansdowne is a past president of the Theosophical Society in Boston. He has a Ph.D. in Engineering from Stanford University, M.A. in Psychology from Antioch University, M.A. in Philosophy and Religion from the California Institute of Integral Studies, and M.S. in Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He has published dozens of journal articles and four books on philosophy and religion.
